When I was your age, we didn't HAVE Hot Topic

No, if we wanted fabulous gothy party dresses, we hit up the thrift stores, learned to make alterations, and sweated over pots of Rit dye, hoping the vintage synthetic fabrics would take.

And we got results like this:

That dress started out the day as my mother's wedding dress from 1964. She was just going to give it to Goodwill, so I asked if I could turn it into clubwear. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Except in my day, it was bleaching jeans to that perfect level of disrepair, and the infamous DIY pillowcase skirt.

Being a freak took WORK, man.

i remember when hot topic came out. i was about 15 so it had to be mid 80's. i remember dragging my mom in their after sweating over chores (not the piddly crap these kids do today but REAL WORK borderline sweatshop crap LOL) to finally get me a brand new pair of zipper & chain leather granny boot spike heals. oooh i was sooo FIERCE!!! I wore those suckers EVERYWHERE ~ sometimes even to bed!!! LOL
